The first AyuNETRA training program on the treatment modalities in Eye treatments in Ayurveda was conducted at AVP Research Foundation from 27th-28th April 2015. The program was inaugurated by Dr. Kalpana Narendran, Chief Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, Aravind Eye Hospital, Coimbatore and graced by Dr.M.Prasad, Principal, Astanga Ayurveda Vidyapeetam, Palakkad and Medical Director, Sunethri Ayurveda Hospital, Palakkad,Kerala, Dr.Itoozhi Unnikrishnan, Traditional Ayurveda Practitioner, Itoozhi Vidya Sala, Kannur, Kerala, Dr.Praveen K, Medical Officer, Indian systems of Medicine, Kerala and Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Administrative director AVPRF and AVCRI.
The workshop was organised by the Netra department of AVP Research Foundation and had aimed to encourage budding Ayurveda scholars with the treatments and para surgical measures for eye diseases practised widely in the field of Ayurveda. It was attended by 73 delegates from variying states. The sessions were taken by eminent physicians like Dr.Prasad MD (Ayu), Dr.Praveen K MD (Ayu), Dr. Itoozhi Unnikrishnan MD (Ayu), Dr.Praveen Balakrishnan MD (Ayu), Dr.Sreejith Mukkadekkat and Dr.Sreekumar MD (Ayu), Phd. Practical knowledge and experiences of the physicians were added with traditional family practices that is prevalent in Kerala. Live demonstration of the surgery was broadcasted to the venue of training to enable interaction with the surgeon.
